METALLURGY
Metallurgy in any regional language or Sanskrut, is called Dhatushastra, where the Letter DH comes from the root, Dhara, meaning Earth.
The backbone of any civilization is this art of Identifying, Concentrating, and Extracting any element from the respective Ore. How can we understand the importance of any element or Metal to be precise. Imagine a surrounding where Metals don’t exist, what might an Ordinary Day for such a Circumstance?
In ancient India, metallurgy wasn’t an isolated craft. It was woven into alchemy (Rasaśāstra), medicine, warfare, and temple building. From the Iron Pillar of Delhi that stands rust-free even today, to surgical instruments described in Sushruta Samhita, the legacy of Indian metallurgists is awe-inspiring.
But somewhere down the line, we stopped seeing metals as part of our living heritage. We began to treat them as mere resources, not revelations. The art of Dhatuśāstra faded into textbooks, no longer a living science.
Maybe it’s time to unearth that legacy again—to learn not just how to use metals, but how to understand them.
